Los Angeles Dance Project

Aria is a short film by Benjamin Millepied, produced by LADP and Nowness.com. It captures the freeform movement of rising dance star Lil Buck, set to an electric guitar rendition of Bach’s 1741 “Aria” from the Goldberg Variations (performed by Millepied’s brother Laurent).

​From the imagination of choreographer/director Benjamin Millepied, we enter a world where ballet meets street dancing. L’il Buck and the New Styles Krew interpret ballet with great finesse and elegance, while staying true to their roots. Composer Nicholas Britell re-composed Bach’s Double Harpsichord Concerto B.M.V. 1060 with woodwinds, drums, electric bass, looping, and glitch FX, while maintaining the “essence” of the Bach Movement throughout to match the feeling of the dance.

Framework is a new series of three site-specific dance performances by L.A. Dance Project/Benjamin Millepied and Los Angeles artist Mark Bradford, in the galleries at MOCA Grand Avenue.

MEDUSA is an artistic collaboration between director-choreographer Benjamin Millepied, Rodarte, and LA Dance Project. Featuring Millepied and LADP dancers in handmade Rodarte garments, this film brings to life the bold yet elegant Caravaggio aesthetic.

Premiering August 20, 2012, Moving Parts features a score by Nico Muhly, costumes by Rodarte, stunning visuals by famed LA artist Christopher Wool and choreography by LA Dance Project’s founder, Benjamin Millepied.

After being invited by Benjamin Millepied to a rehearsal for the L.A Dance Project’s premiere performance, Oscar-nominated director Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Biutiful (2010), Babel (2006)) was inspired to make a video-exercise that documents movement and dance in an experimental way, with a stream of consciousness narrative. The result is NARAN JA (One Act Orange Dance).

The film, produced by The Amoveo Company, was shot outside of L.A. and features excerpts of the new choreography Benjamin Millepied crafted for Moving Parts. The story takes place in a secluded, dusty space and centers around LADP dancer Julia Eichten who seems to be on an eternal search… for herself.
